Your patient, Javier, is a 16-year-old boy. He is coming in with his parents today with complaints of vomiting, and diarrhea. His mother and father report that he has been having joint pain, loss of appetite, and weight loss for the last several weeks. When you assess your patient his vital signs are 97.8 degrees F, HR of 85, RR of 18, and BP of 95/65. Upon receipt of his lab work, you notice his potassium level is at 6.0 and his blood sugar is 55. What metabolic disease you do think Javier is suffering from?
Which gland is affected by this disease?
Which hormone is altered in this disease? What would you expect the provider to order to improve Javier’s condition? What medication would he require long-term for this disease?
