Using reasoning and material from “Is Octopus Farming Sustainable?’ and “The Case Against Octopus Farming,” take a position on whether the United States should pass the law like the one the United Kingdom recently has- the Animal Welfare (sentience) Bill- which gives protection against animal cruelty to sentient ocean creatures like
octopuses.
The essay must have at least six paragraphs, be at least three pages, and include in-text citing
and a Works Cited page. *The Works Cited page does not count as content; thus, your essay
needs to be three pages without it.
To provide your readers with persuasive support, you must use the required article/video
indicated in the prompt as well as use three additional academic sources, at least one of which
you locate on your own using (ideally) the library databases. All the uses of the texts/video
cannot be in the form of direct quotes. Work on your paraphrasing skills. Cite the sources in text
and provide Works Cited entries.
Create a full-sentence outline. 8 pts.
The introduction needs to 1) get readers’ attention by using a hook of a few sentences, 2)
discuss the issue briefly and introduce any needed info, and 3) present the thesis based on the
chosen prompt. The introduction must be at least ten lines.
The body paragraphs need to reflect the chosen prompt and be at least eleven lines long.
The conclusion needs to use a strategy and be at least six lines long.
Your paper needs to have an academic title that gives readers an idea of your specific focus for
the essay; it should be at least three words. Refer to the texts in the present tense. See the
Writing Resources module and textbook for information about how to use textual support.
This essay will be mainly in third person (“they” / “them” ), with the use of “we” or “our”
allowed when referring to society. *No first person “I/my,” second person “you/your,” or “one”
point of view allowed unless in direct quotes.
