Last week you observed your classroom to see if it was a print rich environment. This week you will be doing observations on the use of language in the classroom. Create a narrative observation of things you see during your lab experience. After you are home and can reflect, I want you to focus on the specific things you witnessed that dealt with language/writing. Some questions that you can ask yourself/answer to help with your reflection: Are the teachers creating opportunities for the children to practice writing? Are the teachers talking the ENTIRE time to the children? What types of activities are happening in the room? Are the children being asked open ended questions? Are they given opportunities to talk about their own experiences? Is the teacher connecting things in the classroom to the childrens life experiences? Are there opportunities for the children to practice letters/sounds/rhyming/etc..?
