Make an informal pre-writing brainstorm of all of the ideas you can think of related to your topic. You can use a free write, a list, or a cluster, whichever you feel is most effective for you (CLUSTER IS ATTACHED).
Look over your brainstorming work and consider which ideas are the most relevant and effective for your main idea, purpose, and audience.
Create a thesis statement that may be used for the full essay (pp. 194-197).
Review your brainstorming work and thesis, and make an outline for your essay, planning for three body paragraphs (or three main points that you will support with examples). pp. 199-201
