Some of you have personal websites or blogs…
And most of you have personal social media accounts!
Regardless of your current position or situation either personally or professionally, this Discussion exercise is going to require that you walk in someone else’s shoes today!
In order to prepare for the Discussion, read the article linked here called Social media can help, hurt prep athletes and an older, but important informative article called Online Social Networks and Restrictions on College Athletes: Student Censorship? Also take a look at Stanford University’s NCAA Social Media Reminders for athletic administrators, coaches and student-athletes.
Then, you will want AND need to conduct your own research on the topic as well!
Walk in someone else’s shoes to reflect on social media…SERIOUSLY!
After reading the assigned articles and conducting your own additional research, you will need to try “walking in someone else’s shoes” and by taking on ONE of the following roles listed below and responding to the corresponding questions to create your Discussion response:
1) Role: college athletic director, do you allow your student-athletes to post information on social media? Why or Why not? What are some of the major concerns (3+) you have regarding social media?
2) Role: high school athletic director, do you allow your student-athletes to post information on social media? Why or Why not? What are some of the major concerns (3+) you have regarding social media?
3) Role: parent, do you allow your children who are student-athletes to post information on social media? Why or Why not? What are some of the major concerns (3+) you have regarding social media?
4) Role: college student-athlete, do you feel you should be allowed to post information on social media? Why or Why not? What are some of the major concerns (3+) you have regarding social media?
5) Role: high school student-athlete, do you feel you should be allowed to post information on social media? Why or Why not? What are some of the major concerns (3+) you have regarding social media?
Be sure to clearly state which role you are taking on and to document your response with your properly cited research.
You must include at least one of the articles required to read for this assignment in your paper.
You will be expected to include research from at least two additional sources of information.
You will want to identify and discuss at least three different concerns that you have researched and feel are important in this role.
You will also need to respond to at least two classmates’ Posts in order to receive full credit for the assignment.
You must properly cite your references BOTH within your document AND in your Bibliography.
