Literary analyses are essays that examine a piece of literature to understand its messages, interpret its meanings, appreciate its techniques, and/or understand its historical and/or social contexts. analyze “Drinking Coffee Elsewhere” by ZZ Packer (LtG pg. 335-350).
The key to analyzing a text is to read the text “closely.” Thoroughly examine the author’s language and carefully examine one/or all of its elements.
Rather than giving you a specific prompt, I want you to choose how you want to write about this text.
You might want to write about one of the following:
Write about how a character’s motivations/desire conflict with his/her ethical responsibilities
What do a character’s actions reveal about the character?
What is the conflict of the story and how does it influence the character?
How is the setting integral to the story? Does the setting influence the character’s actions?
What does this story teach us about human nature?
Requirements
Your essay must reference specific literary elements and how the author uses those elements to make a statement.
750-1,000 words
