Definition essay
The purpose of this writing exercise is to help your audience gain a deeper understanding of an abstract term that relates to your identity. Like our last essay, this writing project invites you to look inward and examine who you are.
Your tone in this essay should help you to connect with your audience. Creative and expressive language works well in an extended definition. Let your personality come through on the page. However, you may want to limit your use of first person point of view. Continue to avoid second person point of view.
In this modules essay, you will write an extended definition essay. I want you to explore the many facets of your identity, then choose one specific area youd like to explore. Choose one aspect of your identity of which others may only have a shallow understanding.
Start with the dictionary definition, then expand on it. Help your audience to have a greater, more detailed, realistic, and empathetic understanding of this word using a few of these techniques:
