In this assignment, you will be working individually to produce a research proposal on the
following topic:
An investigation into the use of robots in the hospitality industry in Asia
The research proposal should contain the sections indicated below (All sections are
required):
a) Front Page (course code, date, student’s name, teacher’s name and title of project)
b) List of contents
c) Introduction and background Ch1
? Introduce the topic and why this area is worth investigating
? Clear statement of aim and objectives of the research
d) Literature Review Ch2
?Review relevant literature on the topic (make sure you understand the topic) to set a clear
context of the situation you are investigating. Think about:
o What has previous research shown?
o Has the situation changed over time?
o What does this tell us about the issue you are investigating?
o Are there any hypotheses you wish to test?
Make sure you reference all facts, figures and previous research using Harvard format.
e) Proposed Methodology Ch3
? What research philosophy are you proposing to use to investigate the topic?
? What approach and what tools will you use?
? Who will be the sample for your data collection? How will you select this sample (sampling
approach) and how big will the sample be?
? How will you implement your chosen research tool to the sample population?
? When will the research be undertaken (timeframe)?
? How will you analyse the data you collect?
f) References
? You should use and reference at least 10 secondary ACADEMIC resources in your research.
Refer to the online resources and EMERALD database in eCampus as a starting point.
Format:
The report should be an approved format (Please consult the Study Skills Guide).
This paper should include: page numbers (starting from the Introduction with page 1), all
text should be left-aligned, font type: Arial or Times New Roman- Size 12.
Additional Notes:
You are not required to prepare the survey questions.
For the Methodology section, refer to the class materials/slides in weeks 2 and 3
Remember: this is a proposal for a research project into the above topic. You are therefore
aiming to provide a detailed background, evidence of researching and discussing the related
literature and an appropriate methodology that you would use if you were to undertake the
project in full.
It is strongly recommended that you contact Mr Seymour and arrange a 20-30 minute chat about
your resit (either online or on campus) to make sure you clearly understand the requirements and
ensure your resit is successful.
