As one of your final assignments, you will need to submit a brief autobiography paper, 3-5 pages of content (meaning 5-7 pages including title and references pages), mapping out several important milestones and development of your life, through the lens of what you have learned in this course. Connect these milestones to your current relationships (society, family, love ones); dreams and aspirations; decision making, success, etc. In what ways did these developmental milestones contribute to who you are now? The specific milestones you mention are entirely up to you, and if there is anything you would not feel comfortable about mentioning, then it does not have to be included.
Associate your milestones with developmental theories we have learned from discussions, texts and other research materials. For example, you might write about Erikson’s stages of psychosocial development and how you progressed through several of the crises. Alternatively, you may include a page introducing and describing Bronfenbrenner’s ecological theory, before then going into detail about your own personal microsystem, mesosystem, etc. and how these factors shaped your own growth and development up to where you are now.
Ultimately, this assignment is for you to demonstrate your understanding of some of the material covered in this class by applying it to your own life, using your own experiences and milestones as a way to understand the stages put forward by Erikson, Piaget, or the perspectives on development taken by figures like Freud, Ainsworth, Vygotsky, and/or Bronfenbrenner. It is entirely possible that one or more of these theories in fact do not accurately reflect your own experiences. In which case, you can structure your paper to argue in that direction, as you describe how your own personal development runs in some way counter to these theories.
Information concerning the theories you’re relying on should be clearly cited within your paper. The essay should be in APA format, with intext citations and proper references, along with including an APA-style title page. For additional information on APA style, check the page here.
