To start, you will choose 2-3 of the topics below to write about.
* Describe your family history/background
* Discuss and describe your personal interests, hobbies, and/or passions
* Describe a positive past experience(s) in an English course
* Talk about a negative past experience(s) in an English course
* Discuss a positive or negative academic experience
* What will your life look like in 5 years, and what do you plan to do to ensure that this comes to pass?
* Why are you here at Mission? What are your goals and ambitions?
* Taking money out of the equation, what is your dream job and why?
* Who is someone you admire and look up to? Why?
* If you could take a trip anywhere, where would it be and why?
* If you could relive an experience or era of your life, what would it be and why?
* Discuss and describe things about you that you feel like I should know in order to best help you learn and grow. Remember, this essay is confidential.
* Any other topics come to mind? Let me know if you are going to pick a topic not on the above list.
2. Next, using the skills, knowledge, or just intuition you currently possess, do your best to compose an essay that has the following elements:
* You will have an opening paragraph that announces your name, age, and provides an overview of the 2-3 topics your body paragraphs will describe. If you are familiar and comfortable with additional strategies for opening an essay, feel free to employ them.
* Your 2-3 body paragraphs will each focus on one of the topics above. Do not include multiple topics in your body paragraphs. You can use some narration, and you can use some description as well.
* You will have a closing paragraph that creates closure by reviewing the topics you discussed and their key details. . If you are familiar and comfortable with additional strategies for creating closure, feel free to employ them.
* Your essay needs a title. Feel free to be creative. If you do not feel creative, use the title, Personal Introduction
* 3 full pages of development are required. If a few lines spill over to page 4, that is fine.
* Format: A). Entire document must be typed in 12 point Times New Roman font. B) The entire document will be double spaced with 1 inch margins. C). Your name, your instructor’s last name, the course number, and the date will be in the left hand corner (also double spaced). D). After page 1, the student’s last name and page number will be upper right corner of each page.
* Please spend a bit of time editing and proofreading your essay. Your objective is to demonstrate what you feel is your best sentence-level writing at this time. As this is a formative assessment, points will not be deducted if further editing and proofreading is needed. However, this is not a free pass to not edit and proofread. Remember, you are introducing yourself, for the first time, to your instructor.
