In this assignment, you will be writing a cover letter applying for one of the three job positions you selected in
Career Portfolio Assignment, and based upon the skills and experience you compiled for your résumé and
LinkedIn page in CPA #4.
The purpose of the cover letter is to get noticed. In the cover letter, try to distinguish yourself from among the
dozens (hundreds?) of qualified applicants and convince the agency to interview you for the job. Your goal is
to get your foot in the door. Don’t just repeat everything that is in your resume; instead, highlight the relevant
information or job experience. You need to explain how you have the qualifications the employer is seeking.
The letter should be about the employer’s needs, and how you fulfill them.
As with the résumé, there are Microsoft Word templates you can use to format your letter.
In order to complete this assignment, you will need to upload two (2) documents to the Blackboard site:
1. The job announcement for which you are writing the letter (this can be copied and pasted on a Word
document if it is from the Internet.)
2. Your cover letter
