(Wilson, 2008, pp. 16-17) citing examples of illness and health of the Maori culture as portrayed in the film.
Many studies in psychology, human services, and other social sciences conducted on Indigenous people as opposed to
those
conducted by or with Indigenous people focus on negative aspects of life, as identified by outside researchers
the focus of these studies is on illness rather than health. One consequence of such studies, even though their intentions may have been good, has been the proliferation of negative stereotypes about Indigenous communities.
