In one of the Districts in which I was superintendent, parents raised hundreds of thousands of dollars through the PTA and donated it to the schools. Teachers received grants from the PTA to carry out projects; schools were given donations to purchase the latest technology. In another district in which I worked, the PTA could barely buy candy canes for the students during the holidays. Is this fair?
As a society, should we try to level the playing field? Maybe your parents sacrificed so they could live in a school district with a lot of resources. Maybe they donated time to help the PTA in your school. The question is complex.
