There is a lot of information online, in magazines and newspapers relating to public policy, local governments, and more. However, some of the news articles are not always accurate or are based on faulty research or resources. As individuals, it is up to us to analyze what we read in order to decide if we believe or disbelieve the validity of the article.
For each article summary:
First find ONE article in any current magazine or newspaper or online. They have to be current articles, in the sense that they must be published &/or written in the last year. They also must be related to the class in some way, from US Supreme Court Decisions, laws passed by the New Jersey Legislature, laws passed by the US Congress/Senate, ordinances passed by the town you live in, or information regarding the Governors policies or things he may be trying to accomplish – so this is a wide scope of information. These articles are not to be research articles because the focus of this assignment is to look and evaluate what the general public is reading.
Read the article and analyze the contents of the article. For each article you are to provide the following write up:
Publication Information: Title of article, author, and publication source (CITATION OF ARTICLE)
Summarize the article in your own words: including basic facts and information provided in 8-10 Sentences.
Analyze the article in your own words: pick apart the information and evaluate it in the context of if you think it is accurate and reliable and how it affects you or other individuals in 8-10 Sentences.
Reflection of the article: What societal impact does this article have? How would it affect the readers, regardless of if they analyze it or not? What impact does it have on your perspective of state and local government? And any other questions that you think of when reading the article in 8-10 Sentences.
WRITE THE ASSIGNMENT IN YOUR OWN WORDS! DO NOT PLAGIARIZE! IF YOU ARE CAUGHT PLAGIARIZING YOU WILL RECEIVE A 0!
