write a thoughtful paper, plus an additional page for your sources
Your paper should
present the pros and cons of the controversial issue, and a conclusion reflecting your position and why you are taking that position. You should use the MLA-style citation.
Proposition 1: The FBI Search of Mar-a-Lago Was a Violation of Trump’s Fourth Amendment Right.
Your paper must have a title, and it should be exactly word-for-word as one of the two titles above.
For example, if you choose to write on the first item, you must write on top of the first page of your paper: Proposition 1: The FBI Search of Mar-a-Lago Was a Violation of Trump’s Fourth Amendment Right. And the rest of your paper must speak directly to this title.
Your paper should include:
1. An Introduction.
Your introduction must include your purpose in the Paper. After a few brief general remarks, tell your reader specifically what the goal of your paper is. Your goal should revolve around your title, and it should be word-for-word as the following example: My goal is to weigh the pros and cons for the proposition that the FBI Search of Mar-a-Lago Was a Violation of Trump’s Fourth Amendment Right; after which I will state where I ultimately stand, and why. This section is important so that your reader knows exactly what he or she should be looking for in the body of your paper. If you do not include this section, your paper is meaningless. I repeat: State what you want to do in the paper upfront and do so with the exact example I have helped you with highlighted above. Then hit the points one after the other coherently.
Body of the Paper:
Here you will go about fulfilling what you indicated in the introduction that you wanted to do in the paper. This is the chance for you to marshal convincing evidence showing the possible arguments on both sides of the proposition. Watch your spellings and grammar. Avoid convoluted sentences; and remember that a sentence must have a subject and a verb to be a valid sentence. Your grammar and language structure will affect your score.
3. A Conclusion
In your conclusion, summarize your arguments for and your arguments against, then tell us where you stand after all is said and done. You may include other related thoughts
4. Citation
Use the MLA-style citation.*
Your “Works Cited” page (the last page of the writing which does not count) should include as many sources as you want but must include at least:
a. One non-electronic book
b. One non-electronic magazine or newspaper
c. Use a 12-point font of Calibri
Do not ignore the above information.
The last page of the paper should be labelled WORKS CITED. When you quote or make a reference to a book in the body of your paper, simply write the last name of the author and the page number from which you drew the quote or reference.
Example:
Suppose you read a book authored by Alicia Gonzales US Trade Balance under Foreign Pressure (New York, NY: Young Publishers, 2020) and somewhere in the book, say, page 30, you came across this passage:
The importance of Sino-American trade cannot be overemphasized. Because China is a fast-growing economy and may overtake the American economy in a few short years, American policy makers and businesses must double down on research and development to give United States enterprises a competitive advantage over their Chinese counterparts.
If you quote or paraphrase this passage in part or in whole in the body of your paper, you should simply place the last name of the author and the page in the body of the paper next to your quote in parenthesis just like this: (Gonzales 30). Then go to the last page of the paper under WORKS CITED, and write:
Gonzales, Alicia, US Trade Balance under Foreign Pressure (New York, NY: Young Publishers, 2020)
