In this course, students will view the various mediums for hard news stories (Television, Radio, Newspaper, and Magazines), Students will keep all entries in ONE document, in Microsoft word. There should be a minimum of TEN entries in the semester; the 10th and last entry will be BOTH used as a written entry and oral entry. It can be videotaped from a smartphone and turned in separately on the home page – on a separate link which I will share by mid-semester under announcements, any further details needed. Students will also analyze the value of each medium (TV, RADIO, NEWSPAPER, MAGAZINE, INTERNET NEWS) as well as reflect on different hard news stories on the various mediums, and consider using the information learned when they create their individual media log. For example, if you viewed news via TV, RADIO, NEWSPAPER, MAGAZINE or INTERNET NEWS, pick one particular hard news story, mention in 100 words, the facts you understood from the news story, the type of mass communication news (TV, RADIO, NEWSPAPER, or MAGAZINE), identify the source (CNN, The New York Times, or Time Magazine), the date of the information, and then, the students personal comments on what they learned from a specific form of news. Students must view news in all formats – newspaper, magazine, radio, TV, and internet news. You will turn in your entire written media log, in ONE Microsoft Document, at the end of the semester, for grading on Blackboard. See schedule at the back of the syllabi. See example of media log on the HOME PAGE
