Is relativism compatible or incompatible with the notion of social justice?
Many of us, or most of us, assume that our society could be better, especially after summer of 2020. We think that there is still a lot of work to be done so far as issues like racism and sexism are concerned.
But a relativist may make the argument that social progress is meaningless, since its just a matter of changing one set of values for another, both equally valid – and so why bother? In other words a society with discrimination is as valid as a society without it, because no one can really judge objectively which is better.
How would you respond to the relativistic viewpoint? Discuss.
