-Select an artifact, (most people choose a song because its easier to code and analyze)
-Analyzing the artifact; the second step in the process of criticism is to
code or analyze your artifact using the procedures of the method. In this case
you are doing cluster, so you identify (using different colors) the key terms
in the artifact and the terms you find nearby the KEY terms (nouns and
pronouns only) and the supporting terms (any other word or sets or words
that relate to the key terms). The coding process is explained in the chapter
and on my slides. Read this closely.
The other part of analysis is “constructing the rhetorical vision”. You do this
by looking at the patterns that emerge in your coding. What does this
process reveal to you about the artifact you have chosen? Of course,
there is usually more than one. Remember this is entirely your POV!
