1. Identify the types of web pages and websites that teachers develop and use in your school or local school district. Determine what web development process was used to create the web pages or websites. To collect this information, you may need to interview media specialists, technology directors, and teachers. Also, examining your schools website could be helpful.
Once you have done your exploration, choose one teacher-developed website and use the Website Content and Design Evaluation ChecklistDownload Website Content and Design Evaluation Checklist (Figure 7.2 on page 254) to evaluate the website. The Internet and web facilitate the ability for teachers and students to design, create, and make all sorts of digital products. This chapter highlights five types of web-based creation activities: multimodal representations, digital publishing, storytelling, and bookmaking; digital portfolios, audio, and visual development; and computer programming.
In your discussion, answer the following question:
Which two types of web-based activities would best support your subject/course area and teaching style? Give reasons for your thoughts and provide examples that justify your answers. You can cite examples from the module readings.
3. Web-based resources that increase learning opportunities for so many students have also acted to further disadvantage many already-underserved students when web pages and websites are not developed with students with disabilities in mind. This condition places an extra responsibility of school systems and teachers to provide equitable access to web-based resources and the skills needed to take advantage of them.
