This rhetorical analysis assignment will allow you the opportunity to study the text of two scholarly articles in your discipline and examine the rhetorical strategies used. Identifying how and why each article was crafted in a specific way will sharpen your skills as a critical reader of texts; and it will provide insight into the way various strategies are combined to attempt (and, ideally, accomplish) a specific rhetorical purpose in a field/discipline.
Your essay will demonstrate (1) your understanding of how various rhetorical strategies are used, (2) your understanding of the kind of writing that is valued in your discipline, and (3) your ability to use evidence from a text to support your conclusions.
