The SkillsFuture refers to a program that was implemented in Singapore whose
objective is to be a job creator for the citizens of Singapore thus, enabling growth and
development in the nation (Rivero-Díaz, 2014). The policy was implemented in 2015
when the first annual budget’s reading was done by the Ministry of Finance. The main
areas that were advocated by this policy were grounded on attainment of job openings,
specialty development and sound education for the Singaporeans and the youths in
particular. Thence, the paper is dedicated to exploring areas of the SkillsFuture’s
outcomes on the Singaporean citizens especially the youths regarding economic status,
social welfare, and education. The analysis on the economic condition and the weight
of the program will be discussed based on the evidence given (SkillsFuture, 2015).
Thesis; Based on the current goes forth that surround technology, social regards
and economic growth, the government through the Ministry of Finance came up with the
system of “SkillFuture” campaign to settle all the challenges that are surrounding the
creation of fresh job openings. In this way, all old jobs that are not necessary will be
looked at, and changes made where necessary. The program was done through
creating its affiliates who were dealing with issues that relate to getting knowledge and
education, creating of new job vacancies and enabling the economy to grow in an
expected manner (Jones & Conrad, 2015). Nevertheless, the policy has demonstrated
great significance on the young people because they are the primary target of the
initiative. For, instance, once the youths can earn a living, and then the country will have
a good opportunity to improve its economy and develop effectively.
For Singapore to grow and develop to its expected standards, both human
resources and capital based on quantity and quality should be uncommitted. Through
the report addressed by the minister of finance, the program is designated to avail new
job openings within the country and help the youths sustain themselves and maintain or
initiate projects that are helpful to the economy of the country (Gordon, 2013). The
program further gives financial counseling to ensure monetary issues are handled well.
The most important piece of the policy to the youths who are schooling is that they get
financial assistance and career training while they take on their studies. Equipping the

Singaporean Workforce Development Agency (WDA) with counselors will assist them
grow in their profession and play a significant role in the industry. The young people
aspiring their career in the same field will equally benefit through acquiring paid
internships or training. For example, the move will enable the Singaporeans to attain
more skills that may enhance them to take part in the growing economy of the country.
(Wisconsin, 2014).
The SkillsFuture also allocated some funds that were designated to assist the
Singaporeans to enroll for the training of different specialties to increase their chances
of getting new job opportunities. It was to be done in intervals to ensure continuous
support; the funds were likely to be allocated in 2016 to serve the purpose. By 2017, the
policy will come up with an online medium. It will help in easy access of online
educational resources that may change and improve the citizen’s experience.
Another benefit attached to SkillsFuture is the policy that allows the young people
who are schooling to earn while they are learning. This initiative is called earn and
Learn program. It is aimed at making further studies easily accessed and manageable.
In this way, people will have an opportunity to shape their career development (Tainer,
2016).
The New Industry Collaboration was also created by the government to enhance
a friendly development and business environment. The initiative was created under the
SkillsFuture movement and its aim was to strengthen the ties between the players of the
economy in Singapore. The industrial program is projected to ensure there is Sectoral
Manpower Plan (SMPs). Through the SkillsFuture collaboration between the
organizations, trade unions, associations and the government was created
(SkillsFuture, 2015).
On the other hand, the policy has failed to create the solution to the primary
challenges such as the countrywide stability and lack of jobs among the youths who
have various skills in all the industries. More of its focus is on development attainments
through the initiative of education that is already in practice. However, it may force the
Singaporeans to spend more due to expected deductions by the government like the
SKILLSFUTURE
levies and taxes. For example, no reliable ties between the public and private sectors
have been achieved. Of course, some job opportunities can be created but the other
beneficiaries are likely to suffer (Budge & Birch, 2014).
Finally, the Ministry of Finance has taken a good move which is looked at as an
appropriate measure of the welfare of the nation in the years to come. Even though it
will not benefit everyone, some portion is likely to live better through it. The movement
has solved problems related to lack of employment opportunities and strengthened the
relationship between the private and public sectors. The journey has been managed
through the creation of a conducive development and business environment.
