BSN422 Nursing Research
Module 1 Discussion
DQ1 Reflect upon your career as a nurse.  Identify a topic in your practice that would benefit from evidence.  You may use a recent change that has occurred and describe how the evidence impacted nursing practice.  You may also describe a situation encountered in practice that is handled differently by each provider with varying results.
DQ2 Describe the process necessary to find a critique a quantitative research study.  As a nurse where do you access research?  How do you know if a study is quantitative or qualitative?

Module 2 Discussion
DQ1 Choose a topic for research that you are passionate about. Using the PICO guide (p. 98-99, Houser, 2018), develop a research question based on your topic of interest. Describe your topic and post your research question to the discussion forum.
DQ2 Perform a literature search in the library for a quantitative research article related to your topic.  Share a critique of the article.

Module 3 Discussion
DQ1 After exploring the readings, choose a vulnerable population and describe the ethical issues surrounding this population.  What is the role of the institutional review board (IRB)in protecting vulnerable populations?
See the Nursing Syllabus Standards & Policies Document for Discussion Participation Guidelines & Grading Criteria.
DQ2
1.Review the pdf of PHRP
2.Watch the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zfrpFwIwug
Discuss the role of ethics and human rights related to nursing research. Make sure to include Codes and Regulations, Respect for Persons, Beneficence and Justice

Module 4 Discussion
Describe how quantitative research may be utilized to enhance professional practice.  Search the web for practice guidelines that apply to your practice.  Describe any quantitative studies utilized to develop the practice guidelines.  Share with your peers how you recognized the study as quantitative.

Module 5 Discussion
DQ1 Locate a qualitative study on your topic in the library.  .  Evaluate the study using the checklist for evaluating a qualitative study (Houser, 2018, p. 437).  Include a brief discussion on how qualitative studies inform EBP.  Include the citation of your study in the reference list.
DQ2 Please prepare a three minute speech that you would give to your colleagues on the following topic: “Evidence-Based Practice and Nursing Research: Why should we care?” Create and share the speech using VoiceThread. Please use your webcam, a PPT, images, or documents to support your speech visually. Remember to comment on your peers’ VoiceThread presentations and reply to comments made on your VoiceThread presentation.

Module 6 Discussion
DQ1 Distinguish between recruitment and sampling strategies used in quantitative versus qualitative studies.  Is randomization appropriate for qualitative studies?  Why or why not?
DQ2 Consider the following research statements:
Test the effects of an educational intervention on medication adherence for patients with heart failure.
Explore the experience of living with heart failure from patients’ perspectives.
Describe how you would design a data collection method.

Module 7 Discussion
You and a team of multidisciplinary health care personnel are assigned to review current evidence to improve medication adherence among older adults with heart failure.   Explore the EBP models in our reading this week and discuss how you would integrate a translational model to incorporate this evidence.

DQ1 Using the Curlej, M. H., & Katrancha, E. (2016). One Rural Hospital?s Experience Implementing the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America Guidelines to Decrease Central Line Infections. Journal of Trauma Nursing, 23(5), 290–297. doi:10.1097/jtn.0000000000000235 article design a poster presentation.  Present your poster below.
DQ2 After exploring the Dissemination Planning Tool, describe a research dissemination plan collaborating with other members of the healthcare team to enhance patient outcomes related to central line infections as discussed in Curlej, M. H., & Katrancha, E. (2016). One rural hospital?s experience implementing the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America Guidelines to decrease central line infections.
