WSJ ARTICLE SUMMARY #2—H. ALLMAN
1
Donald Trump Says He Would Deport Illegal Immigrants’ If Elected
At an Iowa campaign stop last week, Donald Trump attempted to regain control
after an immigration story line startled his campaign efforts last week. He made it clear
that he would be deporting “criminal illegal immigrants” after winning the campaign for
president of the United States. Even though he made this bold claim, he did not provide
additional detail about whether or not he would install a “deportation force” to remove
the 11 million illegal immigrants that are currently living in the U.S. This is a surprising
change to his original stance on deportation, which helped to make him so popular in the
initial stages of the presidential race. He keeps changing his stance on the issue—in a
Fox News interview that aired Tuesday and Wednesday, he wouldn’t deport
undocumented immigrants; Thursday on CNN, he was reported saying that “there is a
very good chance the answer could be ‘yes,’” he would deport them. Supporters are still
standing behind Trump regardless of the uncertainty regarding his immigration policies.
