1 min read

Please write an interpretive essay, which discusses a passage from the Iliad and/or character from the book. Your paper should combine interpretations of art and text and reference to primary text.

Some ideas can include:
A character analysis, for example “Achilles as an exemplary Greek hero” or “Agamemnon as an anti-leader,” or “Hector — the hero wronged by the gods”
Women in the Iliad: “Helen: a victim or a villain” or “The world of the gods as a reflection of gender roles in the Greek world”

other options:
“Battle and fighting techniques in the Iliad.”
“Troy as the city” — architecture and society
“The Reason to Fight: War as Lifestyle in the Iliad”

The paper should include at least one quotation from the text.
You don’t have to do any research outside of The Iliad, but if you want to, please do not forget to provide your sources.
