Throughout this unit we have looked at various issues relating to households, families, and work and women in the global economy.
Watch the film “Maquilapolis” (available through the library and Kanopy.
The women featured in Maquilapolis come to understand the function of workers in the globalized economy as commodities that can be replaced if they are not productive or not the cheapest available. Like with Servants of Globalization by Parrenas, R. (2015) who must also migrate and function as workers in the globalized economy. Please identify and describe 3 ways that these working women’s experiences can impact (negative or positive) their family. Explain where they are from and where they are going. Who are the primary beneficiaries of this type of free-market system? Whom does it harm? Do you share their vision of how workers fit into the economy?
Your paper should be 3-4 pages, typed, double spaced, proofread, and include a work cited page. You will be assessed on your ability to answer the prompt fully, provide your own thoughts and ideas, and draw connections to the readings (Servants of Globalization by Parrenas, R. pg 1-84) from this unit.
Please use the book Servants of Globalization by Parrenas, R. pg 1-84 AND 1 outside source.
