This will be 1–3-page reactions to a primary source pertaining to the time period (14TH AMENDMENT) we are learning about in essay format. Spelling, grammar, formatting, and citation count. It is your responsibility to make sure your work gets to me on time. All work needs to be double spaced as per Chicago/Turabian. This should be done in a word document. Late assignments will be docked ½ grade every day they are late. You are free to choose which “document” you write about within our course syllabus guidelines, but you must clearly note which “document” you are covering, and you remain responsible for all noted readings each week. The goal of the writing is to:
1. Identify the author(s).
2. Identify the original intended audience.
3. What sort of document is it (legislation, poem, personal letter, etc.)?
4. What does the document say and in what context?
5. What is the document’s intention?
6. What does this reveal or tell us about the time it was written?
7. What have you learned as a result?
Make sure you back up your arguments using citation from the material (Turabian or Chicago).
