This project is worth 100 points and your grade has two parts:
Article Review (Up to 80 points)
Read this article which is condensed from a chapter in the book The Universe and the Teacup: The Mathematics of Truth and Beauty by KC Cole, 1997.
Type up a thoughtful response to this article (about 400 500 words). Consider the following to get you started on your reflection.
Have you ever heard anyone say something was growing or shrinking exponentially? What was the situation? What did it mean to you then? What does it mean to you now?
Consider your own understanding of large numbers, exponential growth, and issues facing our nation and our planet. Think about how using mathematical equations to model actual data might help us to better understand our world and predict future trends.
Use examples, anecdotes, personal reactions, etc. Convince me that you read the article and have really thought about it.
Your score for this portion of the project is based on the Written Project Rubric.
Reflection (Up to 20 points)
After participating in the class discussion about this project, you will fill out the Project 2 Reflection.
Missing the in-class discussion, or not having your essay submitted in time for the discussion, will result in a loss of 10 points for this part of the project.
