1) Who is the bourgeoisie? (Note: A quick Google search will tell you theyre the middle class. The Bourgeoisie is not the middle class. Refer to the lecture and/or do deeper research to correctly answer this) Who is the proletariat? How do they interact in capitalist society? What is the role of labor in society? What was the relationship between US capitalists and Mexican workers in the early 1900s? Provide an example from the reading.
2) Chacon lists Mexicos seven largest industries in 1910 and 1911 being oil; mining and metallurgy; agricultural production; manufacturing; the banking system; electricity production; railroad (found on page 5 of the introduction). Please choose 2 of these industries to research.
You will begin by describing how they function in our current day and age. After completing preliminary research: a) please investigate which are the biggest corporations in that industry, b) who are the owners (first name them and then identify if they are foreign or national corporations or owned by the Mexican state), c) where the production of wealth is flowing to (is it staying in Mexico or leaving the country?). and finally, d) compare and contrast the situation of foreign ownership of Mexico in the 1900s and in the 21st century.
