Envision your future as a scholar–practitioner and discuss the personal transformations you foresee on this journey. An examination of your time management practices is a central feature of this process. Here are some ideas for your post to get you started. Choose ONE to respond to for the discussion this week.
Discuss your view of the scholar–practitioner model and where you see yourself along this continuum (a scholar, a practitioner, both, or something in between). What kinds of personal transformations do you envision for yourself?
What surprised you most about your time management self-assessment? What are your secrets for successfully managing your time and lessons learned?
What outside resource (image, video, article, research study, self-recording) best reflects your experience or interest in being a scholar–practitioner and/or your use of time management? Share the link within your post. Why did you pick this item to share?
What about this week’s content did you find to be of most interest to your professional development and/or academic journey?
The Scholar-Practitioner Model
The practice doctorate is one that teaches you to become a scholar-practitioner who is able to create, expand, and apply new and existing knowledge, research, and scholarship to solve real-world professional problems in your field of practice. In a discussion this week, you will write about the personal transformation you expect to experience as you become a scholar- practitioner.
According to Lombardozzi and Tyler (2017), “smart” practitioners are cognizant of the relevant literature and research in the field of practice. They use this to develop practice approaches that align with organizational goals. Scholar-practitioners know how to access the knowledge base, understand it, and use it for innovation in the field of practice. The three attributes of the scholar-practitioner are being smart (knowing the research and literature), being brave (trying new and innovative approaches, even when they are unpopular), and being generous (sharing their practice based knowledge and experience).
The following resources provide an introduction to the structure and meaning of the scholar- practitioner learning model, which Capella University has used to build its curriculum. These resources will also help you get a clearer sense of how a doctoral program is different from other degree programs.
