In Writing Project 2 we explore our place in this world, examine ideas of
belonging, connecting, and participating in real or virtual communities. The author Konnikova explores
the Dunbar number, the theoretical number of friends one can really have, and the ways in which social
networking is affecting not only this number, but also socialization itself. Orenstein writes about
societys relationship to social media and the media culture, often driven by celebrity. Turkle looks at the
effects of social media and how our personal devices and online personas are redefining human
connection and communication. The various texts explore the impact that our changing worlds and new
technologies have on our ability to navigate our daily lives and maintain genuine relationships.
