I would like you to read The Prophets Hair by Salmon Rushdie. (Attached)
Write an essay about this short story. I would like you to decide what to write about, but whatever you decide, make sure you have an argument. We discussed in class at length what an argument is. Without one, you do not have an essay. So make sure you have an argument before writing the essay. To come up with an argument, you must read the story once or twice then THINK ABOUT IT. Analyze it, think about its meaning. What are your feelings or reactions to it? From this analysis, reflection, thinking
you will find what you want to write about. What is your opinion and how will you s support it? That is your argument.
In fact, I want you to email me your argument by this Thursdays class.
Possible things to write about:

The writing style of the author.
The story in the context of the authors life or in the context of recent or ancient history.
Magic realism in the story.
Religion in the story.
Or anything you feel strongly about.
