I have assembled four vignettes describing a lesson in four different high school mathematics classrooms. Your task is to analyze each of the vignettes in terms of:
What mathematics concepts or topics are a part of the lesson?
What mathematical practices are used in the classroom?
You should consider the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (attached in files) as one source to analyze and describe the math practices that students are engaged in.
What role(s) do the students play in the classroom? What do the students do and what types of thinking are they engaged in?
What role(s) does the teacher play in the classroom? What does the teacher do?
The following documents are intended to help guide your analysis of the classroom vignettes, but the goal is for the resources to promote some lenses through which the mathematics, teacher actions, and student actions can be considered. You should not feel a need to be overly reliant on these documents in your analysis, although they might be useful in organizing your thinking, providing some language to use, etc. Bring your own sensibilities and viewpoints into the analysis, as well as insights/ideas from the readings for this week.
Please finish the Vignette Analysis Table (4 questions) and make sure you refer to the readings I uploaded. Thank you!
