For this assignment, you are the teacher, and I’m your student. In your essay, you will teach me something that I don’t already know well in order to achieve a specific purpose. You might teach me something that you think I need to know about, or you might teach me to appreciate something in which I have no current interest, or you might teach me something that I am interested in but don’t know much about. Whatever your topic, it must be a process.
Goal:
To practice one of the most common forms of communication: giving directions. Every day, we tell strangers how to find a new restaurant, show our friends how to play a game, or follow the heating instructions on the back of a frozen dinner. In academia, the process analysis is useful for testing students’ understanding of a topic. Writing a process analysis on your chosen topic will give you greater understanding of your topic and of the necessity of carefully considering audience needs and expectations.
