PEERS 1 (Melissa) !
Ageism does not only apply to older people but also to young people. I have witnessed how young people get passed for promotions just because they believe that they are not ready due to their young age. My husband works at the workforce center, and he assists veterans with barriers to employment and two of the barriers are veterans between the ages of 18-24, because they are young, and the Vietnam Era veterans, and while the barrier doesnt specifically state it is due to their age it is implied. Many employers discriminate against employees due to their age and while they do not say it, they come up with a different answer on why not that candidate was chosen, for example, while you have an impressive resume we have decided to go with another candidate. But like I stated before, I have witnessed an employer being passed over for supervisor promotion due to his young age. The manager believed that the employee would take advantage of the position and or just last a year and move on, while the older candidate/employee would probably last longer at the organization and be more mature. Boosters (2014) states on the video that stereotypes that carry with age does not necessarily mean that all people in that age group are like they are believed to be. Unfortunately, this happened to that employee even though he was a good worker and displayed leadership qualities, the stereotype overshadowed those qualities. The employee became mad and quit anyways, so it backfired on the manager to not promote him. I personally went through this after my accident. The manager, an older lady, thought I was lazy because I complained of pain and fatigue, but she did not know that I was in a very serious accident. Just like Booster (2014) in the video states that the stereo types may be misleading but that is the way people make sense of the world, and in my case, they saw me young and with no stamina, a lazy young girl.

PEERS 2 (Leah Tiner) (175 words)
Society as a whole puts so much pressure onto individuals of the LGBTQ+ community. Many of these individuals work twice as hard to be accepted at school, jobs and many places within the community. There are so many stereotypes that cause these individuals to be looked down upon when mentioning their sexual orientation. As Blumenfield mentions in his article, Homophobia locks all people into rigid gender-based roles that inhibit creativity and self-expression (Blumenfield, 2013). In many instances, attending school and in the workforce, Ive realized how much gender roles are a huge deal in todays society. Ive heard classmates call a male soft/faggot for crying, but its normal for a woman to cry. Ive also heard females being called hoes for having multiple male friends, but its the cool thing to do for male to have multiple female friends. Another example would be clothing, if males wear too tight clothing or females wear too bag clothing, theyve been considered gay. This affects everyone because individuals such as myself who are not a part of the LGBTQ+ community but are very accepting of them, feel like we cant wear certain clothing or act in a certain way or we`ll be looked down upon. Even those within the LGBTQ+ community should not feel limited or ashamed to wear their preference of clothing, because it may cause too much attention. Some people arent comfortable enough to express themselves and let the world know their sexual orientation and thats okay. Everyone should just be cautious when teasing someone for being gay because they are wearing specfic clothing. Everyone is entitled to their own sexual preference, therefore no one should feel ashamed or be teased for having a specfic sexual orientation. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 bars employment discrimination on the basis of sex-gay and transgender workers (Platoff, 2020). Ive heard discussion of gay teachers who teach young indviduals such as pre-school or kindgergarder. They should not be discriminated against because of their sexual orientation, esepcially if teaching is something they are very passionate about
