CRITICAL READING RESPONSE ONE TOPIC
I want you to consider the way in which the texts we have covered can be used to unpack,
deconstruct, and/or frame the representation of race in the media. Discuss what you have learned
from
your readings and our discussions of them using references from two of the readings listed.
Tip: To organize your response think of a central idea/answer/thesis and use evidence from the
text to backup your response.
Critical Reading Response Evaluation Guide
Your reading responses will be
evaluated for their critical engagement with the ideas and concepts in the chapters and articles we
are covering. I want you to consider the ways in which the texts we cover can be used to unpack,
deconstruct, and/or frame the representation of race in the media.
While the focus of the evaluation
is the content of your writing, this is still a formal writing exercise. You will be graded for both the content
of your response and the presentation of your ideas. This is a communication course and as such the
presentation of your ideas is of great importance. As such you should turn in responses that have been well organized, structured, and edited. They should also be presented in MLA format in 12-point font, and
include quotations, paraphrases, and proper in-text citations and Works Cited page.
The feedback will consist of recommendations for improvement and ideas to further enhance
your analysis.
Occasionally you may see comments on grammar and composition, however these will not be the
focus of the feedback unless your writing mechanics affect the presentation of clear ideas and your
demonstration of engagement and knowledge of the texts.
