Consider this scenario: Suppose you are a newly hired CSI, working for a law enforcement agency and your supervisor has selected you to attend a presentation and workshop where a new fingerprint dusting kit is introduced and demonstrated. The presenters of the workshop are employed by the fingerprint dusting kit manufacturing company. Your primary assignment is to report back to your agency supervisor whether or not the agency should consider purchasing this new kit to use at crime scenes. Your supervisor has asked you to provide your feedback in a two to three page written report; no other details were provided.
Step by Step Instructions:
Based on the information in the scenario above, please answer the following questions.
Explain how each of the six critical thinking skills discussed in class and put on Bb applies to your task.
As an example, the first critical thinking skill and its application is provided here. Please complete the remaining five, using the first one as your template. (5 questions/skills, 20 points each, 100 points total for this question).
Example: The first step in critical thinking in Reading 1 was identification which means recognizing the situation or problem. In this scenario, identification would mean noting that the problem of fingerprinting is being evaluated. One aspect to consider is whether or not there is a problem or limitation to the current methods or techniques the agency is using to dust for fingerprints. One question to ask the presenters at the workshop is how or why a new fingerprint dusting kit is an improvement. Does it do the same thing as kits currently in use but better or more cheaply or faster? And how and why?
Repeat this process for Critical Thinking items 2-6 that were outlined in the reading.
Discuss how each of the steps for research listed in the critical thinking skills reading apply to your task described in the scenario.
Be sure to include how a step would be modified to fit your task, particularly because you are not writing a research paper for your supervisor, yet it is a report that should show effective critical thinking and evidence that you researched the topic.
Please note that in this activity you are NOT actually doing the research or writing the report, rather you are writing about how you would proceedthe exercise is one of demonstrating an understanding of how you would apply the steps
