Choose a nursing quantitative research article, either one used in the class or one of your own choosing.
You may not use the same one you used for DF Week 4 or any other previous DF.
You may NOT use an article already selected and posted by a classmate–so be sure and check the DF to make sure that if you choose a class article, it has not already been used for this DF–otherwise, you will have to write a new (second) post.
You may not use one used by another student from a previous DF.
You may not use systematic reviews, meta-analysis, scoping reviews, integrative reviews, or literature reviews.
Provide the following information about the quantitative article:
1. State the problem statement (often found in the abstract or the paragraph right before the methods section of the article).
2. State the purpose/aim/objective of the study (use exact words from study and page reference).
3. State the research question. If there is none, write one based on the problem, and remember it should be a question (see pgs. 80-81 of Polit & Beck).
4. Identify the study variables; classifying them as independent (IV), dependent (DV), or extraneous.
To identify each variable, provide them in a list and use the notations:
IV1 (for example – IV1 gum chewing)
IV2 (for example – IV2 no gum chewing)
DV1 (for example – DV1 time to first flatus)
and so on…
Share the theoretical or conceptual frameworks discussed in the article, including the pages in the article where presented (e.g. Social Cognitive Theory (p. XX), Health Belief Model, p. XX).
