Brain on Fire Book Reflection
Use the following questions to reflect on Brain on Fire. Your responses should clearly demonstrate that you have read the book in its entirety. The paper should be maximum of 4 -6 pages, APA 6th or 7th edition, including a title page. You do not need an abstract.
Susannah’s symptoms began very vaguely. Discuss the progression of her disease and subsequent interactions with the healthcare system. What were the breakdowns in the process? Why did these occur?
How did the role of nursing improve or detract from her clinical course?
So often in healthcare, we rely on high tech diagnostics; while sometimes we need to be sure to “treat the patient, not the monitor.” Describe how the dichotomy of low tech versus high tech plays out in relation to Susannah’s diagnosis. What is the greater message in this point?
This book highlights the differences in healthcare for mental illness versus mental issues caused by physical problems. Explain why these differences are significant.
In addition the issue identified in question four, describe at least one other major theme in the book that relates to your role as professional nurse or to the greater healthcare system. Use examples from the book and your practice, as appropriate to support.
