Argumentative essay question:
According to the Laws, in Plato’s Crito, why should the law be obeyed? Explain their arguments. Next, do you believe that they put forward a convincing case? Explain your reasoning. (For this critical section, focus on only (1) of the Laws’ arguments instead of all of them.)
The essay instructions are uploaded in files and there are lecture notes as well.
Premise 1: In plato’s crito, the law should be obeyed because of unjust laws that give birth and rear citizens, as parents do to children.
Premise 2: Socrates has willingly accepted the laws by living in Athens. If we exist in a society I think you’re obligated to follow the laws of that society. There’s nothing forcing Socrates to stay in athens. If he doesn’t like the laws there he should go somewhere he does like them as opposed to acting against them.
