5. How and why did European empires change in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries?
– In your response, you might like to consider the impact of industrialisation on European empires, including colonies and former colonies; the influence of new theories of race and cultural difference on imperial governance and colonial culture; the global spread of European empires; and the era of High Imperialism, which culminated in the Scramble for Africa.
