4. Choose the lyrics of a song (one released in 2022) and offer an analysis of the lyrics literary features (metaphors, similes, metonymies, other figures of speech, imagery, and so on). Examine how such literary devices contribute to the overall meaning of the song. Do not rely on videos for your interpretation, as images in videos often have little to do with the words of a song. (You might think that you must choose a weighty or serious song, but thats not necessarily right. Consider a song of your youth, Miley Cyruss Wrecking Ball in which a simile is central to the lyrics: I came in like a wrecking ball.) I am not asking you to explain why you find a particular song meaningful; rather, I am asking you to offer a reading of the songs lyrics. Finally, you are required to hand in a copy of the lyrics with your paper, and you should number the lines so that you can cite them. Be careful with rap lyrics; unlike much pop and rock music, rap songs often have many lyrics. This makes them rich material but also makes it difficult to address an entire song in a short essay. You might have to limit your essay to only a verse or two if you write on a rap song.
