Watch Allen Wallach’s November 2019 Raymond Beecher Memorial Lecture on Thomas Cole’s Course 0f Empire (YouTube video posted) and read Joy Kasson’s 1990 article Narratives of the Female Body: The Greek Slave (.pdf posted).
Write a one page summary of the Wallach lecture and a one page summary of the Kasson article.
Then select one of the following two topics to expound upon in a 3-5 page paper
1. Do you agree that Cole’s allegorical narrative in Course of Empire is universal? Does it have specific implications for 21st century America? Why or why not? Draw upon information for the Kasson article, our textbook, and information from class.
