Subject: Employment writing assignment instructions, 10% of your final grade
Rationale:
Employment writing assignments typically take the form of a resume and cover letter. Those are really important documents to learn how to prepare and properly write. If you are a LGLA student this term, you will be doing those in Work Experience next term (you should keep this assignment for future reference in that course next term). If you’re not an LGLA student, I am sure you will have an opportunity to create those throughout your education. Make use of this reflection experience as you construct your documents.
There are other things, however, that go into creating those important documents beyond simply restating your experiences and writing the letter. Looking for employment is a whole process that asks you to carefully examine what YOU want in a career or job, and not just focus on what the employer wants. Taking the time to reflect on and document your values and your needs is a critical step in preparing to write the resume and cover letter. This assignment will help you do that.
What do I do?
This is a reflection assignment like what you have been doing in preparation for your e-portfolio. You will write a maximum two (2) page reflection on your purpose and desires for employment within the parameters of the assignment and the supporting materials I provide. You will follow the ORID framework for the reflection, which we covered in week 2 and you have been using for your e-portfolio.
Step 1 – review the IKAGAI Venn diagram and the Values worksheet on Moodle.
