I have uploaded a file a little about my family’s generation which is what you will be discussing. I would like that part of it as well to be edited it’s about 2 pages so then from there you will writw 6 more pages disscusing the 3 different genrations that I talked about in my family. You must choose three main topics to focus on. Each main topic must apply to each generation in your family in some way. Choose from the following main topics: gender, social class, race/ethnicity/culture, partner selection/dating/cohabitation, marriage, work, parenting, family violence, divorce/remarriage/stepfamilies (where more topics are grouped together they represent one main topic and you should include each in that section; i.e. “divorce/remarriage/stepfamilies”). In each main topic section of your paper it is required that you include specific examples on each of the three generations. The main topics you choose must apply to each generation of your family (if one generation did not experience a main topic you will need to utilize the research data/findings to explain why; for example, if one generation did not experience divorce you would use the research data on successful marriages and on divorce to explain why they did not experience divorce and explain the effects; you will then apply the divorce material to the other generations that did experience divorce). Within each main topic-focused section of your paper it is required that you directly apply the course material to specific examples. Apply the key sociological terms/concepts, social theories, and research data/findings presented in the course materials (online lectures, chapters in the textbook, online films/clips, and other course material provided) to each generation’s experiences on the topics. It is required that you utilize/apply a variety of the course material (online lectures, chapters in the textbook, articles, and other course material provided) on each of the main topics you include in your paper.
Each main topic section must include at least six subtopics. Subtopics are any of the topics included in each main topic section.
A minimum of eighteen sociological terms/concepts and/or research/study data must be applied to your family’s experiences. A minimum of six instances of application per main topic section is required. Ensure that you are apply sociological terms/concepts (common words such as “divorce”, “marriage”, etc. are not considered sociological terms and do not need to be bolded, you would need to apply the research data on these topics and go beyond merely using these common words).
A minimum of three different social theories (three main social theories – functionalism, conflict theory, symbolic interactionism – as well as any of the other social theories presented throughout the course – theories of partner selection, social learning theory, feminist theory etc.), must be applied to your family’s experiences. At least one social theory must be included in each main topic section. At least one of the theories included in your paper must be one of the three main social theories, the other two theories can be main theories or another theory covered in the course. Theories need to be directly applied to specific family experiences, you will need to go beyond just explaining the theory and ensure that you apply the theory to specific examples. Use the key terms associated with the theories to help you explain how the theory applies.
Directly apply the material to specific examples and explain application. Papers must be in essay format (no bullet points or subheadings).
Introduction: Begin your paper with an introduction which explains the nature of the assignment and includes a thesis statement (states the focus of the paper and tells the reader what the paper is going to be about). Introduce the three generations of family members included in your paper. Introduce the three main topics your paper will focus on (list your main topics in the order in which you will cover them throughout your paper).
Three Main Topic-Focused Sections: The body of your paper will consist of your three main topic-focused sections (lengthy paragraphs for each main topic is expected). You must have one section for each of the three main topics you choose to focus on (gender, social class, race/ethnicity/culture, partner selection/dating/cohabitation, marriage, work, parenting, family violence, divorce/remarriage/stepfamilies). You should not have separate paragraphs on each generation, paragraphs MUST be organized by main topic. Each main topic-focused section must include application of the course material throughout (terms, concepts, research data/findings, and social theories) and must include examples of each generation (each main topic must apply to each generation in some way; you must discuss the experiences of each generation on each of the topics you have chosen). Conclusion: Conclude your paper with a conclusion. Include a brief summary, restate your thesis in a fresh way with the goal of reinforcing the main idea, sum up your overall findings from your analysis, and include any final thoughts on the topic. Include key terms/concepts as needed.
Works Cited: Include the course textbook, each online lecture utilized, articles/other course material materials utilized (required to utilize each), and any family members you asked questions to in order to complete this assignment. You must utilize the online lectures on each of the main topics included in your paper and you must cite each lecture utilized separately by lecture title. If you asked any of your family members questions about your family history you will need to include their names and relationship to you (it is not required that you ask your family members questions, you may be able to complete this assignment by your memories of your family’s experiences; however, oftentimes you will learn even more about your family history if you do ask your family members questions. You MUST cite correctly (see resources posted on our class website on how to cite correctly; I have noted exactly how to cite the online lectures (Modules Page; “Paper Assignments General Information”). Papers submitted without a works cited page will be considered plagiarized and zero points will be earned. APA or ASA format should be utilized for citation purposes.
