Scenario: Children with many differences enroll in the preschool where you are a teacher. Many speak languages other than English and have come to the United States from other countries. Some children have learning differences. You and your fellow staff members recognize that if you are to best support the development of all children, you need more information on each childs experiences. The staff has been asked to help develop an intake questionnaire for parents of children who do not speak English as their first language; children who were not born in the United States; and children with learning differences to use when they register their child. This questionnaire will be translated into other languages, but the survey will first be developed in English.
Task:
Download the Preschool Family Survey template. *This is a PPT file. You can type directly onto the template for each section.
Create an 8-question survey. Make sure each question is written in a way that is culturally sensitive, nonthreatening, and in language easily understood by someone who is not an education professional.
Section 1 (3 questions): In the first three-question section, focus on the language experiences of a child who does not speak English as his or her first language.
Section 2 (3 questions): In the second three-question section, focus on the cultural experiences of a child who was not born in the United States.
Section 3 (2 questions): In the final two-question section, focus on the experiences of a child who has learning differences.
Self-Evaluation: Write your self-evaluation response after you have completed your Preschool Family Survey. *Double spaced, APA format
For each section of your survey:
Explain how this section addresses the issues in the scenario.
Give evidence from the chapter supporting this section (with citations).
Describe and justify how your survey would improve teaching and learning in the scenario.
