Application: Selecting a Topic

One of the biggest challenges you may encounter as an undergraduate student is incorporating all that you have learned throughout your concentration into a single culminating project. The Capstone Project for this course requires you to integrate and apply the concepts of human rights, rule of law, or international justice with/to your area of concentration. These concepts are related to criminal justice and are underlying factors of social change. Completing the Capstone Project is a critical milestone in your academic journey. Selecting your topic is a necessary first step to developing a solid Capstone Project, which you will develop over the coming weeks. You should select a topic that is valid and relevant to human rights, rule of law or international justice.

To prepare for this assignment:

Search the Internet, research databases, and other reliable sources to gather information about potential Capstone Project topics related to human rights, rule of law, or international justice.

Select a topic for your Capstone Project.

Think about why the topic is relevant to human rights, rule of law, or international justice.

Consider why you want to research the topic further and why it is important to you.

The assignment (1–2 pages):

Briefly describe the topic for your paper.

Explain why the topic you selected is valid and relevant to human rights, rule of law, or international justice.

Explain why the topic you selected is important to you.
