On January 1, 2006 Bird Co. purchased a new machine at a cost of $125,000. At that time Bird estimated that the machine would have a 10-year life with a residual value of $5,000. In early 2008 Bird revised the total useful life of the machine to 7 years from the date of purchase with a $1,000 residual value. Bird uses straight-line depreciation for all its assets. What amount of depreciation expense would Bird report for 2008?
