African diaspora? Give one specific example of how it could be used as a resource in
studying the historical legacies of the African slave trade.
4. The introduction to The Rienner Anthology illuminates several aspects of the West
African oral tradition. Discuss ONE of the aspects detailed in the introduction and
demonstrate how it applies to understanding ONE of the readings on pages 36-43 and 8994 of the anthology.

fiction written during the colonial period (1885-1956). Detail a cultural parallel that can
be drawn between the function West African literature written during this period serves

6. Describe the segregationists, assimilationists, and anti-racists sides of the debate about
racial disparity in America. Discuss how ONE of these approaches to understanding
racial disparity can be applied to a post-colonial analysis of West African fiction.
