To prepare for this section of the Course Project:

Review the Course Project Guidelines in the Learning Resources.
Reflect on the Marchildon et al. (2018) article that you read in preparation for this week’s Discussion. Again, consider how public health issues have been addressed through the use of policy.
Review the “Healthy People 2030 Framework” and the “National Prevention Strategy” articles. Note that the U.S. government has some specific ideas about objectives for improving the health of the population. For those of you who reside outside the United States, review the United Nation’s “Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” resource.
Consider public health issues in your community and select an issue that you would like to address (e.g., obesity, violence against a particular group, alcohol abuse, tobacco use, etc.).
Think about any questions that you might have about your Course Project.

Week 1 Course Project: Topic Selection

To complete this section of your Course Project, write a 1–2-page paper that includes the following:

A description of public health issues in your community.
An explanation of an issue that you would like to address (e.g., obesity, violence against a particular group, alcohol abuse, tobacco use, etc.
Locate 4–5 appropriate resources that support the topic you selected. If the resources are not from a scholarly journal, ensure that you use those from only reputable websites and organizations. Provide an APA reference to each resource and write 1–2 sentences about why you selected each resource and how it will help inform your Course Project

The topic that you select will be the focus of your Community Advocacy Project. Within your submission, include any questions that you may have about your Course Project. Your Instructor will answer your questions along with the feedback on your topic.
