American Psychological Association format is a useful way of documenting and
citing ideas from other research and papers included in your own work. This makes
sure that credit is given where credit is due, but it also allows the reader the ability to
look at the references and read those works as well to find out more information or
more in-depth information on an aspect of your research. For example in my paper I
cite a work that goes into great detail and description of their attempt to utilize social
media to reach a target audience. I use the basis of their research and ideas in my
paper to expand/support my theory. Someone who is interested in the steps already
taken down that path now have the article where I got my evidence and can read that
article. As far as APA format and publication date, it seems like the answer is fairly
simple; publication date is important because you don’t want outdated or old sources
who’s research has been rendered obsolete.
So far in my course project there hasn’t been to much of a problem
documenting or citing resources. The reference entry is also not something that is
difficult these days, as there are multiple ways to verify the correctness of the entry.
Microsoft Office has APA format references builder right in the program allowing the
writer the ability to just plug in necessary fields.

APA style writing allows us to produce high quality research papers that allow the
readers to investigate further on the argument being presented (Johnson-Sheehan &
Paine, 2012). Publication date is highly emphasized for the accuracy of the data
being presented. If articles being used are old the statistics presented within may also
be dated and incorrect. I tend to do fairly well at writing APA style. There are a few
areas where I do forget to appropriately incorporate APA formatting but hopefully by
submitting it for peer review I will be able to correct those issues. For many of my
papers I utilize PerdueOwl.com. This site gives directions on how to properly cite
different forms of resources as well as how to properly format papers according to
APA and even MLA format.
